Before embarking on the next phase of your writing journey, which is to submit your manuscript to book publishers, here are a few important writing tips to help you along the way.

Writing is rewriting. After you have finished your manuscript, read it from beginning to end. After making changes, take a week or two break then revisit it again with fresh eyes to locate any unintended errors or mistakes you may have missed. The most common reason a manuscript is declined by publishers is excessive or sloppy writing mistakes and errors.

Use spell and grammar/style check using programs like Microsoft Word or other programs. Publishers, prefer a polished, professional manuscript. Some authors may need help for academic nonfiction, or memoirs and legacy books written by first-time writers.

Be authentic. Never, ever, use AI to create (write) or edit a book.

Avoid dialogue issues. Character dialogue should appear on separate lines. When you write one character’s dialogue, press enter so that the next character’s dialogue or action is on the next line. More than one character’s dialogue on the same line or paragraph is a very common mistake made by inexperienced writers.

Excessive chapter numbering. If you have a 100 page book and over 20 chapters, or a 300 page book with 80 chapters, then you have too many chapter headings. Consider using subheadings instead of chapters. A book under 400 pages should have no more than 20 chapters.

5 important steps every author should take before publishing a book: You’ve finished your…

["post-4941","page","type-page","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
