Where can you find a job full of adventure, change, surprises, and interaction with animals, children, and adults? The United States Postal Service is where. Susan M. Sanchez is a postal carrier and turns some of her daily adventures into a cute children’s picture book in The Adventures of Maggie the Mail Carrier. One of the great perks of being a mail carrier is the gifts many customers leave in the mailbox for their carrier: cookies, candy, and even homemade banana bread. Children will enjoy how Susan takes common experiences and creates great stories. Maybe your child’s class can tour your local post office. Maggie always takes time to be kind to all her customers while making her daily rounds. My cousin was a rural mail carrier, and he told similar stories. Susan M. Sanchez loves her job as a mail carrier and that love shines through in her wonderful book—The Adventures of Maggie the Mail Carrier. Written in an entertaining style that even the youngest reader can enjoy, this book shares the many hidden joys of the job. From having lunch with a horse named Hank to discovering a garage fire and alerting the fire department, each story shows compassion, care, and love for those she faithfully serves. This book will help children see that there is adventure all around them, and they can have fun and enjoyment in any career they choose. Discuss with your child what you would like to leave in your mailbox for your mail carrier. A Christmas gift is always appreciated, but think of other days you can make your carrier feel special. I highly recommend this book to all young readers as they learn about being a good neighbor.

The Adventures of Maggie the Mail Carrier by Susan M. Sanchez is a heartwarming story that follows Maggie, a rural mail carrier. Maggie shares her fun and sometimes scary experiences delivering letters and packages. One day, while delivering mail on Meehan Drive, she meets a little gray mouse named Meehan Mouse who lives in a mailbox. Maggie helps him find a new home that is safe from the storm. On another day, Maggie teaches a class during a field trip to the post office, helping the children understand how the mail reaches their homes. Throughout the book, Maggie talks about the animals she meets along her route and the locals she interacts with. Enjoy all these stories and more of Maggie’s adventures, and discover the fun of being a mail carrier in the countryside. The Adventures of Maggie the Mail Carrier is a beautiful story that encourages readers to appreciate community, connection, and the often-overlooked magic found in everyday moments. It can be enjoyed by both children and adults as it presents entertaining tales and nostalgic experiences for anyone who has ever lived or worked in a rural area. The story contains humorous moments and courageous acts that show Maggie’s kindness and bravery. I loved how each chapter brings a new adventure, from rescuing a cat to helping puppies find their way home and delivering treats to children. Each story is unique, making the book captivating. I eagerly anticipated what Maggie would encounter next on her mail route. I also enjoyed that the animals could talk and had cute names, which added a whimsical and magical element. Susan M. Sanchez also addresses heartfelt topics, such as delivering mail about death and visiting elderly community members. The illustrations are vibrant and eye-catching, bringing the characters and stories to life. Overall, this is an enjoyable read, and I highly recommend sharing it with your child to teach them about the joys of mail delivery.
