Review:

Philosopher, yoga instructor, and religious teacher Swami Satchidananda Saraswati once said,  “When you become the master of your mind, you are master of everything…” and while the journey has just begun for protagonist Noah Martin, this quote proves nonetheless true in the first entry of Ray Clifford Martinez II’s series Echoes of the Hapnu: Mind Vault (Full Review Here)

About the Book:

As the bartender at an exclusive lounge in the American Thalum-an offshore domed community where the vast majority of the North and South American population now reside, after an alien race known as the Hapnu shared their technology with humanity and taught them how to heal the earth from its past abuses-Noah Martin was accustomed to a certain amount of chaos. But nothing could’ve prepared him for the day a beautiful, mysterious woman called Ada linked her mind to his. Until then, Noah had no idea he was a psi, one of a few rare humans gifted with abilities like telekinesis, telepathy, pre-cognition, and more.

Unbeknownst to him, Ada entrusts Noah with a mind vault, the key to her employers’ most guarded secret, right before she’s attacked. Suddenly, Noah is the target of Demacia, a powerful mercenary group bent on stopping him from delivering Ada’s secret to the right hands.

Luckily, a rival mercenary group, Ivory Point, steps in to help him. As Noah learns how to navigate his newfound powers, and how to stay alive in the high-speed, life-or-death world of mercs, his quest takes him from Earth all the way to Mars. Along the way, Noah and the ragtag team that makes up Ivory Point learn what’s at stake: embedded in Noah’s mind is the key to awakening a scientist who can heal humanity from the plague that’s been dogging them for years. If he can get to Mars alive, he just might change the course of human history forever.

Audre Lord once said, “Guilt is not a response to anger; it is a response to one’s own actions or lack of action.” In Ray Clifford Martinez II’s Wizards of the Mound, no one knows this better than the protagonist, Lazlo Redthorn. (Full Review Here)

About the Book:

Lazlo Redthorn has lived many lives-Law student, a soldier for the king, and unexpectedly a talented mage, and judge for the most powerful academy on the continent: The Wizards of the Mound. But his current position is his most important.

Like his mentor before him, Lazlo is a teacher. And not just any instructor: Lazlo takes the problem students; the kids nobody else at the Mound will risk teaching. He’s in the perfect position to do that because even though he works for the academy, Lazlo refuses to set foot on campus again. Not after what happened last time.

Unfortunately, Lazlo’s vows go out the window when his old mentor dies in a mysterious dueling accident. Forced to return to campus, Lazlo quickly discovers evidence that his mentor was murdered. But none of the other masters believe him- in fact, no one is acting quite like themselves.

Lazlo must solve his mentor’s murder himself- with the help of his star pupil, an out-of-place druid, and a former friend who Lazlo once betrayed. He’s made a lot of mistakes, but Lazlo is determined to see justice done this time.
