Review:

The “Father of History,” Herodotus, a Greek historian and geographer from the Greek city of Halicarnassus, once said, “Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these courageous couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”

While many believe that this quote isn’t the official motto of postal workers, those postal carriers live by that creed regardless. Whether it be a small letter from a pen-pal or a gift from a grandmother to their grandchild on the latter’s birthday, they complete their task no matter the challenge before them.

In the delightful and fantastical The Adventures of Maggie the Mail Carrier by Susan M. Sanchez, we follow a rural mail carrier named Maggie as she goes about her day delivering the precious parcels to the citizens on her route.

Maggie is a charming lead in this book who shows kindness, determination, and joy no matter what she is doing, whether she is on her long, early route, greeting children on a field trip to the post office, reuniting families, or even saving lives, she always does it with a smile.

The story itself is a heartwarming look into Maggie’s days as a postal worker. Susan Sanchez does a wonderful job creating a whimsical story, with the main source of this is Maggie’s abilities to talk to animals. From the little homeless mouse hiding in the mailbox to reuniting a family of dogs, this little addition to the story shows how selfless and caring Maggie is toward everyone she comes across.

What adds to the whimsical style of the story is the art. The art style is very charming and easily catches the reader’s attention which is a huge bonus as this is a children’s book.

With strong writing, beautiful art, and a lovable mailwoman with the ability of Zoolingualism, The Adventures of Maggie the Mail Carrier is a perfect addition to every children’s bookshelf and earns an enthusiastic recommendation from me. ★★★★★ – Elijah B. (Explore Authors Magazine)
